How To Find Products To Sell On Amazon

The Secret to Building A Billion Dollar Brand

Are you having a hard time looking for products to sell on Amazon?

Back in 2015, Nate was selling retail and online arbitrage products on Amazon. He saw the success that I was having importing my own branded products from China, and his competitive nature started to kick in. So he started looking for his own products to private label!

His first product was a vacuum space-saving bag. It’s a type of bag where you can put in a lot of stuff like your clothes, pillows, and blankets and you vacuum the air out of it so it will look like a bean bag.

He discovered this product while looking for ways to save space in his new home. That’s how he stumbled upon the space-saving bag. He solved his own problem!

This is a classic example of how you can find products to private label and sell on Amazon. Identify your own pain points and check if other people are also experiencing the same problems.

Finding products to sell on Amazon is part science and part art.

Most people put emphasis on the data part because of all of the software available. Less people focus on the practice ‘art’ approach. Nate and I aren’t natural engineers or data-scientists, so we have to simplify our methods way down!

We’ve learned the art over the last 10 years as we’ve sold on Amazon. And here are 3 of the ways we still look for products:

1. Look into the pain points you are experiencing in your own home.

Here’s an example: Deanna and I used to cook a lot in our former job and we used a plastic spatula. We went through dozens of spatulas that would end up getting burned and ruined. So, we had to discover a new type of spatula. Lo and behold, we discovered silicon. Silicone spatulas aren’t easily burned when used in cooking and I private labeled my own silicone spatula set.

2. Consider hobbies and interests you are passionate about.

A few years back, I was super into road biking. Because I actually did it myself, I knew a lot about it and what types of products didn’t have a good selection. I never really went after any road biking products because it was before my private label days, but it would have bean a really great place for me to start my research. Plus, in today’s Amazon world, you really need to consider building an off-Amazon audience to sell to. It’s MUCH easier to do that if you are actually passionate about what you are selling.

3. Source local, made in the USA products.

There has never been a better time to find and market USA-made products. I live in Central Pennsylvania near a large Amish population. There are a lot of things Amish folks make that you could potentially sell on Amazon.
